Suicide Epidemic
It may surprise you to know that suicide is the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S. Men are more likely to succeed in committing suicide than women because they typically chose more violent ways such as shooting themselves, jumping from bridges or high buildings or hanging. Men do commit suicide more than three times as often as women, but women are four times more likely to make unsuccessful attempts. Methods of choice among women are drug overdoses and poisons. Males older than 45 are more at risk than younger men and statistics bear out that women are at greater risk after the age of 55. In all age groups, increasing rates of suicide is causing international concern as this trend is happening in other countries over the world.
